Position Title: Special Projects Organizer - AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America)
2 Positions available
Reports To: Assistant Director Martin Luther King Day of Service
Worksite: United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania
Seven Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia, PA 19103
Time Frame: Full time 12 month term commencing on start date: July/August 2008
37.5 hours per week: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Monday-Friday)
Salary: AmeriCorps*VISTA Position (www.americorps.org)
$949 monthly stipend
$4,725 Education Grant

Position Summary: The Special Projects Organizer is a key organizer of civic engagement volunteer activities for the Greater Philadelphia area Martin Luther King Day of Service Headquarters.
  • Increase the number of volunteers and participating organizations for MLK Day of Service
  • Increase the quality of year-round civic engagement experiences and opportunities for MLK Day of Service participants
  • Build the capacity of community serving organizations
Job Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and implementing community events/campaigns with aim to educate and support Philadelphia and the surrounding counties (e.g., Martin Luther King Day of Service).
  • Assist with marketing and strategic planning to promote civic engagement.
  • Assist in measuring the success and effectiveness of events/campaigns.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to work with and engage others from diverse cultures and sectors of the community.
  • Ability to work in a high activity environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge and experience with computer technology, i.e., Microsoft Office.
  • Possess a strong commitment to civic engagement.
  • Program/project management experience a plus.
